Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Q. What is the difference between Long Term Care Homes and Retirement Communities?

A. Long Term Care Homes are regulated by the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care and receive government funding. Retirement homes do not receive government funding. Residents living in Long Term Care require 24 hour supervision.

Retirement Communities are designed for more independent older adults. Assisted living services are available at Weston Retirement Village.

Residents living in a Retirement Community pay for the full cost of their accommodation, services and any care. Retirement communities decide the type of care services they will provide. Residents can purchase any of the care services offered, or arrange for private care from external care providers (or a combination of both).

Q. Will I lose my independence?

A. Not at all. You will in fact gain more freedom as you won’t be burdened with maintaining the house, yard, winter snow shovelling, housekeeping, shopping and cooking.
